![]()
GMG-owned Real Radio has expanded its sales team in Yorkshire with the appointment of Steve South as sales director and Steve Howarth as agency account manager.
South, who joins from Pulse where he was managing director, will work to develop sales activity across Real Radio Yorkshire, which launched in March this year. Howarth, who joins from Manchester-based advertising company Capital North, will focus on expanding commercial partnerships within the agency market place, both nationally and in the North of England.
Commenting on the appointments, GMG Radio’s sales director, Jon Hewson, said: “Real is already performing well, despite only being six months old. This just goes to show the huge potential for its commercial development and the appointment of two of the North’s best sales professionals will take the brand to its next stage of growth.”
Last month Real Radio appointed Manchester-based advertising agency Clear Marketing Communications to create consumer led marketing campaigns for its group of stations. The agency will devise a new television advertising campaign to promote the group’s stations in Yorkshire, Scotland and South Wales (see Real Radio Selects New Ad Agency For TV Push).
According to RAJAR data for the second quarter of 2002, Real Radio’s stations in Scotland and Wales saw their weekly reach increase by 26.3% and 12.7% respectively, when compared with the same period last year. Real Radio Yorkshire, which launched in March, reported an initial weekly reach of 348,000.
