talkSPORT Appoints New Account Director

Matthew Pennington has been appointed Account Director at talkSPORTs’ sales house Impact.

Pennington was previously the sales director of internet sports site Rivals Digital Media. Prior to this, he was employed as senior sales manager at The Wireless Group, the parent company of talkSPORT. He has also worked at Capital Radio as senior sales and promotions executive, developing sponsorship and promotions ideas.

Ashley MacKenzie, managing director of Impact, commented: “Matt is a strong operator and well known by clients and agencies alike. He works very hard for his clients and I’m delighted he’s returning to the company to run talkSPORT’s expanding team.”

RAJAR figures for the third quarter of 2002 saw talkSPORT’s weekly reach increase by 7.6% year on year, whilst its share of listening increased by 0.1%. The station’s position was boosted by the closure of rival station, TEAMtalk 252.

Last week Guardian Media Group acquired Clear Channel’s UK’s radio sales division for an undisclosed sum (see GMG Set To Consolidate Radio Ad Sales).
