GMG Set To Consolidate Radio Ad Sales

Guardian Media Group has continued it’s radio expansion with the acquisition of Clear Channel UK’s radio sales division for an undisclosed sum.

The future of the advertising house had been in doubt following GMG’s £44.5m purchase of Jazz FM which accounted for about 52% of Clear Channel’s advertising sales revenues (see Jazz FM Agrees To £44.5m Takeover By GMG).

A spokesperson for GMG told Newsline: “We are obviously planning some changes in the structure of our radio advertising departments and expect to be announcing plans later this month.” Guardian Media Group’s national radio sales for its Real Radio brand are currently handled by Chrysalis.

Clear Channel Radio Sales currently represents 63 local radio stations in 45 markets across the UK, as well as six regional digital franchises across the UK.

A spokesperson for the US-owned Clear Channel said it was: “business as usual and the move would cause minimal disruption.”
