Evening Standard Re-Launches Hot Tickets
![]()
The Evening Standard‘s Hot Tickets supplement will re-launch this Thursday as Metro Life with the support of a month-long television ad campaign.
The concept is an extension of the Metro Life section of Associated Newspaper’s free morning title, The Metro, which has been popular with advertisers. The new supplement will include advertising from Coca-cola, Baileys, Uniqlo, Puma, Becks and Warner Music.
The new magazine will also include an extra 34-pages of editorial, making it 96-pages long. It will no longer contain a TV listings section, but Associated Newspapers is hoping that the title will capitalise on the popularity of celebrity magazines such as Heat.
Insiders suggest that because the magazine is printed before Hello, OK! and Heat it will get plenty of celebrity photograph scoops. The first 10 pages of the magazine, entitled Hot Stuff will be dedicated to pictures and gossip from actors, musicians and fashion industry figures. New columnists include Pete Tong, who will cover the clubbing scene and David Smyth, who will cover rock and pop music.
Mike Anderson, managing director of the Evening Standard, commented: “This is an extremely exciting venture and a smart marketing move for the business. Through our continual investment in London we’ve created a market for a brand new entertainment magazine for London.”
The Evening Standard has also confirmed that features editor Bernice Davison has quit the title after six years of service. The paper has suffered from a number of high profile departures over the past month, Jeremy Langmead left the features desk to become editor-in-chief of Wallpaper* magazine (see Wallpaper* Appoints New Editor In Chief) and the paper’s managing director, Sally de la Bedoyere, recently stepped down after 17 years at Associated Newspapers (see Evening Standard Managing Director Steps Down).
She was replaced by Mike Anderson, managing director of the Metro, who is scheduled to speak at this year’s MediaTel Question Time on the 14th October (see NewsLine).
