Inflation Rate Steadies During April

The underlying rate of inflation remained unchanged in April compared to the previous month, at 2.3%. The news countered fears from economists that rising fuel prices would push inflation higher.

The headline rate rose, 0.2% to 1.5%, but this was a smaller increase than expected.

The Retail Prices Index for April was 175.7.
