ITC Welcomes DTT Licence Proposals
![]()
The ITC has welcomed the Government’s proposals for the pricing and availability of digital terrestrial TV licences, which it says will give confidence to potential applicants.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Government said that successful DTT multiplex licence applicants would be free from “administrative spectrum pricing” until 2014. It also confirmed that the DTT spectrum would continue to be based around six multiplex licences beyond the proposed 2006/2010 switch-off date.
According to the ITC, this will encourage those interested in applying for DTT licences as it negates the need to “radically re-engineer” the whole digital terrestrial spectrum.
Yesterday the ITC gave its support to the Government’s recently published draft Communications Bill, which it said goes a long way towards creating the regulatory framework for a dynamic market. However, it also warned that the Bill needs to provide a more detailed definition of public service remits (see ITC Calls For Clearer Public Service Definitions).
