Classic Gold Digital Extends License Portfolio
Classic Gold Digital has acquired the six remaining Classic Gold AM licenses from GWR for £1.7m meaning that it can now broadcast to a potential 16 million people in the UK.
Classic Gold Digital’s chief executive, Simon Cole, said: “We acquired 12 Classic Gold AM licences as part of our original deal with GWR and the acquisition of the remaining six represents the next step in our strategy of building Classic Gold Digital as a leading national brand.”
The six licenses serve Bristol, Bath & Swindon; Plymouth, Nottingham & Derby; Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury & Telford and Wrexham & Chester (see below). The acquisition, which is still subject to the approval of the Radio Authority, means that Classic Gold Digital is now available to over a third of the UK’s population.
Classic Gold Digital, which is 80% owned by UBC Media and 20% by GWR, has been looking to expand its output onto other digital applications since it secured carriage on all seven of Emap’s digital multiplexes in the North of England last April (see Potential Audience For Classic Gold Digital Reaches 13m With Emap Deal).
