ITV Hub is on track for its “most successful year yet” with 100 million streams every month, and December on track to achieve the same.
The number of ITV Hub users has grown by 20% in 2021 while the video-on-demand platform has reached 1.5 billion total streams which is up 26% compared to 2020.
Series 7 of Love Island was the most-watched programme on ITV Hub in 2021 with its first episode viewed by 3.1 million people out of a total audience of 5.0 million people and then each episode averaging 2.1 million ITV Hub viewers.
Overall the dating show was streamed more than 200 million times.
The Euro 2020 tournament where England got to the final was “a huge driver of viewing” on the catch-up service with matches streamed 68 million times throughout.
England v Denmark was the most popular racking up 1.6 million viewers through ITV Hub.
ITV highlighted “top TV events” such as Oprah with Harry and Meghan and Audience with Adele which were streamed by 2.5 and 2.6 million viewers each.
Another factor to the high viewing figures was put down to its “young-skewing commissions” like Stephen, The Cabins and Social Media Murders which 25%, 33% and 47% of the ITV Hub audience watched respectively.
The broadcaster also announced Christmas period evening shows like the The Larkins, Coronation Street and Emmerdale specials will now be available from 7am in the morning ahead of the evening broadcast so viewers will not need to wait.
Rufus Radcliffe, ITV managing director, On Demand, said: “2021 has been a terrific year of growth for ITV Hub. Whether it’s binge-watching drama, live streaming sport, catching up on Love Island and TV’s most talked about moments, or discovering content for the first time, it’s a testament to our fantastic programmes, as well as the improvements were making to the service, that this year is on track on to be our most successful year yet.”
