BBC1 Unveils New Identity

BBC1 has unveiled its new channel idents and logo, replacing the globe hot air balloon which has floated across the space between programmes for five years.

Lorraine Heggessy, controller of BBC1 said that the new identity should reflect the channels “universal appeal”, saying that it was “time to move on and bring a fresh feel to the channel.”

The new logo is red and white, and these colours have been incorporated into eight executions featuring different forms of dance or rhythmic movement including the Maori Haka, Salsa, Ballet and Hip Hop. The new identity was created by Lambie-Nairn, who also designed the hot-air balloon idents.

The new logo is already appearing on poster sites, and the new identity will appear on the channel on the morning of 29 March.
