Amazon’s European Marketing Chief Departs

Amazon.com’s European marketing director Tom Allchurch has left the company just weeks after it reported its first quarterly profits.

Allchurch left the internet retailer, which is generally regarded as the world’s biggest online brand, last month and is not thought to have another job to go to. UK managing director, Robin Terrell and vice president for European retail, Thomas Lot, have temporarily assumed his responsibilities.

Allchurch, who joined Amazon as UK marketing director just over two years ago from Unilever, had been promoted to the newly-created role of European marketing director last February. During his time at the company he oversaw the increase of Amazon’s profile, both in the UK and in Europe, through new ad and television campaigns.

Last January Amazon announced a profit of £3.6m for the three months to December 31 surprising analysts, who had expected the company to take longer to achieve profitability.
