ISBA Warns Members Of Flyposting Crack Down
![]()
ISBA has warned its members against using flyposting campaigns in a guidance note issued this week. The action has been taken following a meeting between ISBA and Westminster Council, in which the local authority warned that it is to take a tougher stance on the practice.
Westminster Council made clear in the meeting with ISBA that it intends to carry out a major clampdown on flyposting, prosecuting advertisers who carry out such campaigns. ISBA thinks that these actions will be watched closely by other urban authorities in the UK and could lead to similar clampdowns in other areas.

The “street” image of flyposting is attractive to advertisers, including major names such as music stores, who want to target younger urban audiences. Unregulated as it is, it obviously brings no income for conventional outdoor contractors, while costing local councils who have to spend money clearing posters away (see The Media Buzz On Fly Posting).
ISBA points out that while it has “no direct power of censure over its members, it does not support the practice of flyposting, which is an illegal form of advertising and can lead to injunctions and legal action against the advertiser.” The full guidance note is available to members on the ISBA website.
