Rivals Kicks-Off World Cup Ad Deal With 02

Chrysalis-owned Rivals Digital Media has signed a six-figure World Cup sponsorship deal with mobile phone platform 02.

The deal, which is the latest in a line of partnerships to be secured by the digital media group, will see 02 sponsor Rivals’ portfolio of football websites including WorldCupRivals.net, Rivals.net and Football365.com for the remainder of the tournament. 02 branding will appear across the top of each of the sites’ content pages as well as on selected ‘high-profile’ sub-sections.

Banner and pop up ads will also run across the sites to increase awareness of the 02 brand and drive traffic to the mobile phone company’s website.

Commenting on the deal, Dave McEwan, account manager at Rivals, said: “We are delighted to have secured O2 as a World Cup Sponsor. With all the work 02 is doing at the moment to familiarise itself with the sporting audience it was a perfect partner to sponsor the World Cup coverage across all three of our football sites.”

Rivals has already signed World Cup deals with radio website provider FM Interactive and jungle.com (see Rivals Lines Up World Cup Content Deals) and has launched a World Cup SMS service in conjunction with Carlsberg (see Rivals Teams Up With Carlsberg For World Cup). The digital media outfit also recently secured sponsorship deals with PlayboyTV (see Rivals Turns Up The Heat With PlayboyTV Ad Deal), TalkSPORT (see Rivals Turns Up The Heat With PlayboyTV Ad Deal) and Bacardi (see Bacardi Signs World Cup Sponsorship Deal With Rivals).
