NGC Magazine To Get £250,000 Redesign

Future Publishing’s NGC magazine is to receive a £250,000 redesign in an attempt to make it the “ultimate read for all Nintendo gamers”.

From next month the magazine, which reported a 41.5% year on year drop in circulation in the latest ABC results, will appear in a new larger format containing 32 extra pages. The new look title will include extended sections promoting reader interaction as well as more detailed reviews, previews and features.

The redesign will be promoted with a series of covermounts including DVDs and special-advice booklets, which according to the magazine’s publisher, Nick Stevens, will place the magazine “in a strong position to take on all-comers in this hugely competitive market.”

He added: “Aside from the sheer size of this title, everything has been redesigned and enhanced in readiness for this new era in Nintendo gaming.”

NGC launched as N64 in March 1997 and was renamed last September after expanding its content to cover Nintendo’s range of next-generation consoles. The magazine saw circulation rise in the first two years after its launch but has seen sales decline steadily since the second half of 1999 (see below).

The gaming magazine sector saw a small rise in circulation (see NewsLine), according to the ABC results for the six month period ending December 2001. Titles attached to older games consoles, including Future’s Official Playstation Magazine saw circulation drop, while those relating to newer ones, such as Future’s Official Playstation 2 saw circulation rise.
