Big Brother Ratings Highest Outside Of Finals

Big Brother achieved its highest ratings ever, excluding finals, with last week’s eviction show, as 6 million viewers, or 27% of the available audience tuned in to see the evictee announced at 8.30pm and an average 7.1 million switched on at 10pm to see Adele leave the house.
The audience for the later show peaked at 7.8 million and the show as a whole attracted a 34% viewing share, according to unofficial overnights from BARB. Previously the largest audience recorded outside of Final shows was in August 2000, when the departure of “Nasty” Nick Bateman attracted 6.9 million viewers.
The average audience for the series so far is 5.1 million, up 23% on the average by this point in the series last year. The show’s popularity continues to grow, however, as last week (week 6 of the series) the average audience was 5.7 million and a 28% share. Excluding final weeks, this is the highest weekly average ever and represents a 30% increase compared to the same period last year.
The make up of the audience for last week’s shows included 2.6 million 16-34 year old viewers, up 11% on last year. The number of ABC1 adults attracted by the show has also gone up compared to the same time last year, by 27% to 2.4 million.
