Emap has announced that Michelle Garnett will become the new editor of its flagship teen gossip title Sneak, which launched in April last year.
Garnett, who was previously deputy editor of Sneak, has been acting editor of the celebrity focused title for the past six months.
Prior to joining Sneak, Garnett was editor of worldpop, where she ran the editorial of the website and produced the worldpop news package for CD:UK. She was also deputy editor of Top Of The Pops magazine and deputy editor of Live and Kicking magazine.
Commenting on her appointment, Garnett said: “After spending the past six months as acting editor on Sneak I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue building on the growing success of the magazine. I aim to keep Sneak a step (or several) ahead of the competition and help it stay looking fresh and blingin’ every issue while giving our readers more juicy celeb gossip and more outrageous real life stories than any other mag on the market.”
Jennifer Cawthron, who was previously editor of Sneak, will return from maternity leave to take on the new role of editorial director working to develop the magazine, drive circulation and build the sponsorship and advertorials business. Cawthorn will also work on the Smash Hits title and develop new pop products.
Stephen Palmer, managing director of Pop at Emap Performance, added: “With Jennifer taking on her new role, I am delighted to announce Michelle’s promotion. Michelle admirably stepped into the editor’s role in Jennifer’s absence and these new roles are a well deserved recognition of talent and hard work.”
Earlier this year Emap launched a national television and radio advertising campaign to Sneak in the highly competitive teenage magazine market.
The latest ABC results for the six months to June 2003 saw Sneak enter the notoriously volatile teenage magazine sector with an initial circulation of 100,107.
Emap Performance recently appointed Marcus Rich, formerly managing director of FHM Worldwide, to the newly created position of managing director (see Emap Performance Appoints Rich As New Managing Director).
