Telegraph Group Names Drayton As New Managing Director

The Telegraph Group has unveiled a raft of senior management changes that will see Hugo Drayton take over as the new managing director.

Drayton, currently managing director of Hollinger Telegraph New Media, will replace the outgoing managing director, Jeremy Deedes, who is set to retire later this week after almost seventeen years at the company.

Dan Colson, deputy chairman and chief executive of Telegraph Group, said: “Jeremy Deedes has done a tremendous job as managing director for the past seven years and throughout a distinguished career with the group, helping us build on our position as market leader in very tough trading conditions.”

The move is the latest in a series of changes at the Telegraph Group following the decision of editor Charles Moore to relinquish his position at the helm of the paper in order to devote more time to his biography of Margaret Thatcher (see Moore To Step Down As Daily Telegraph Editor).

The restructuring will also see consultant editor, Kim Fletcher, move up to the post of editorial director with responsibility for the editorial and production activities of both The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. Fletcher was previously editor of The Independent on Sunday and deputy editor of The Sunday Telegraph.

The advertising department has also undergone a shake-up and Mark Payne, currently deputy advertising director and commercial director of Hollinger Telegraph New Media, has been appointed to the newly created role of group commercial director with responsibility for all commercial activities.

Meanwhile, Chris White-Smith, currently display advertisement director, will take up the new position of group sales director. His appointment follows the announcement that Len Sanderson, managing director of Telegraph sales, is to leave the company at the end of this month (see Telegraph Parts Ways With Managing Director Of Sales).

Tim Faircliff, the operations director of Telegraph.co.uk, becomes general manager of the Telegraph’s website.

The Telegraph Group recently secured HSBC Bank as the exclusive six-figure sponsor of its new business sections. The deal will see the global bank sponsor five full colour special reports in the Your Business section of the Daily Telegraph on Mondays (see Telegraph Banks On HSBC To Sponsor Business Sections).
