BBC Selects Marketing Chief For Nations And Regions

The BBC has appointed Jacky Brandreth as marketing chief with responsibility for promoting the Corporation to the UK’s regions and eliminating its London-centric image.

Brandreth, who is currently acting head of BBC marketing strategy, will take on the newly created role of head of marketing communications and audiences for nations and regions from November. She will work to raise awareness of the most relevant programmes to suit regional audiences and will help to influence strategic and marketing decisions.

The appointment follows the BBC’s decision to step up competition against its commercial rivals by strengthening its marketing strategy in the nations and regions.

The shake-up is intended to achieve a ‘step change’ in the impact of the BBC’s marketing activity in all parts of the UK by improving campaigns for both local and network programming. It follows a review of marketing needs and resources on a national and regional level.

Brandreth has previously worked as head of marketing for BBC1 and as marketing director for BBC World. She took up her current position at the beginning of this year, standing in for Helen Kellie, who is returning from maternity leave.

Last month Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell, called the future role and structure of the BBC into question and announced details of the most extensive “root and branch” review in the Corporation’s history (see Government Details Root And Branch Review Of BBC).
