Sky Launches New Broadband Content Service

Sky has launched a new broadband content service called Sky Scape, which combines a range of content from its digital sports, news and entertainment channels in one portal.

The new paid-for service will allow internet users across the UK to watch their favourite Sky programming via a dedicated website.

Broadband users will be able to access exclusive entertainment content including comedy clips from the Paramount Channel, short films from some of Britain’s leading independent directors, showbiz gossip and movie trailers from MyMovies.net.

Subscribers to the service will be able to watch action from the UEFA Champions League with the choice of full-match coverage and ten minute highlights packages available an hour after the game. Sky Scape will also deliver premium sporting moments from The Barclaycard Premiership, European Tour Golf, Test and ODI cricket and domestic boxing highlights, as well as a host of other sports.

Commenting on the new service, Tom Symonds, general manager of Sky Online, said: “Sky Sports and Sky News are renowned for their award-winning interactive services. Sky Scape represents a strategic move by Sky to bring a taste of this premium content and interactivity online in one easy to access service.

He continued: “Sky has a stable of great entertainment channels for Sky Scape to draw on and we will aim to further enhance our broadband content offering in the coming months.”

BSkyB recently launched its biggest promotion since the launch of Sky Digital five years ago, with a £20 million advertising campaign to push its Sky Plus personal video recording service. The integrated through-the-line campaign is part of a major strategic move to use Sky Plus to drive the satellite broadcaster’s subscriptions towards the target of eight million by the end of 2005 (see BSkyB Launches £20 Million Campaign To Promote Sky Plus).
