Virgin Radio Promotes Commins To Oversee S&P Activity

Virgin Radio has promoted Brian Commins to the role of sponsorship and promotions director with immediate effect.

The new role will see Commins lead a team of eight with responsibility for all non-spot activity for the station including the high profile Pete and Geoff Breakfast show.

The promotion is the second in less than a year for Commins, who took up the position of promotions director back in January, following an extensive restructure of Virgin Radio’s commercial team.

Commenting on the appointment, Lee Roberts, sales director at Virgin Radio, said “Brian has proved over his time with Virgin Radio that he can deliver that extra something each client needs and for that reason he is the perfect man to lead our non-spot team.”

Commins, who joined Virgin three years ago from The Wireless Group, added: “I have a fantastic team here and I look forward to developing our reputation for creativity and flexibility in delivering great campaigns for our clients.”

Virgin Radio has been active in exploiting the potential of sponsorship and promotions over recent years. It was the first to carry a sponsored breakfast show and currently offers advertisers a specially created Access All Areas package to bring them closer to the content of shows.

The station recently secured Nescafé Original as the new sponsor of its flagship Pete and Geoff Breakfast Show, in a deal which marked the return of one of its oldest commercial partners, which first advertised on the station when it launched back in 1993 (see Virgin Radio Wakes Up Listeners With Nescafé Original).

Earlier this year Scottish Media Group, which owns Virgin Radio, launched a cross-media advertising platform to provide clients with tailored solutions across its television, radio, cinema outdoor and online properties (see SMG Launches New Cross Media Sales Division).
