Jobs Go At The Daily Mirror As Cost Cutting Continues

The Daily Mirror has announced that 45 jobs are to be axed across its editorial division, as part of a wider cost cutting initiative launched by its recently appointed chief executive, Sly Bailey.

Announcing the job cuts a spokesman for Trinity said: “The move is part of a wider review at the paper and the job losses will follow a month long consultation with staff and with the British Association of Journalists. Where possible the job cuts will be made through voluntary redundancies.”

In a separate development the Daily Mirror has announced that its Welsh edition will cease to exist as a stand-alone title and will be amalgamated into the core national paper, with specific slip pages to cover Welsh news.

The job losses and cost cutting initiatives across the group are part of Trinity Mirror’s strategic review, which aims to streamline the business to increase efficiency across distribution, advertising sales and marketing (see Trinity Set To Cut Jobs In Strategic Review).

The latest wave of job losses come on top of the 28 redundancies resulting from the recent closure of M magazine and The Look listings supplement (see Trinity Mirror Closes Saturday Magazines To Cut Costs).

Trinity Mirror also recently announced plans to dispose of its Northern Ireland newspaper division, confirming rumours that emerged last month that the business would be sold as part of a broader structural review of the company (see Trinity Mirror Sheds Northern Irish Titles).
