Commenting on the figures, Debbie Chalet, president of the CAA, said: “Despite the comparison with record breaking admissions from July last year, the last month has seen very encouraging admissions and box office performances.”

She continued: “Blockbuster films are delivering excellent admissions and box office. The good performances of Bruce Almighty and Charlie’s Angels 2 mean that we head towards autumn in a strong position.”

New analysis from Screen Digest suggests that the full scale roll-out of digital cinema installations could begin as early as next year. Digital cinema advertising is expected to double by the end of 2003 as operators make a priority out of the provision of low-cost networked projectors (see Digital Advertising Kickstarts Cinematic Revolution).
