BBC Magazines has joined forces with Dorling Kindersley publishing to create a new development title for children aged between two and five.
The new 24-page monthly publication, entitled My First Magazine, will be based around concepts developed in Dorling Kindersley’s pre-school range of books and will attempt to introduce young readers to the world around them through a range of hands-on activities including cutting, folding and sticking.
My First Magazine will be cover-priced at £1.50 and will have a unique small, square format, together with matt white insides that make colouring-in simple. The magazine’s content has been tailored towards the Government’s early learning goals, which state that all children need to develop and learn through interaction and exploration.
Commenting on the new launch, Jaynie Bye, publishing director at BBC Youth & Children’s Magazines, said: “I’m so excited about My First Magazine it’s the perfect addition to our education portfolio and, editorially, it looks stunning! Speaking as a parent, I’m very aware of how invaluable educational titles are to a young child’s development, and it’s a market we take very seriously at BBC Magazines.”
Dorling Kindersley’s children s publisher, Miriam Farbey, added: “We feel that DK and the BBC are uniquely complementary pre-school brands. They both stand for content that is fun for kids and trusted by parents for its sound early learning values. DK is relaunching its My First imprint in the book market this September with a bold, contemporary new styling. My First Magazine is the perfect reinforcement of this innovative look and feel in a channel in which our partners are the market leaders.”
BBC Magazines recently launched a new title called Top Gear Turbo, for children interested in cars (see BBC Launches Top Gear Magazine For Children).
