BT is further expanding its Openzone public wireless broadband network with the launch of a new video email service across internet kiosks in London
The new service will roll out across the special kiosks in selected tube and railway stations around the capital, including Oxford Street, Euston, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street Victoria and Waterloo railway. It will also be available in Harrow Shopping Centre, Heathrow Airport and Victoria Coach Station.
The launch of the video email service will be promoted with a competition inviting consumers to perform their favourite ‘party piece’ in any of the special internet kiosks. Consumers will be invited to record a 30-second clip of their performance in order to win the party of a lifetime.
BT recently announced plans to convert almost 100 of its phone boxes into special Wi-Fi hotspots in a move that could bring broadband Britain came a step closer.
The telecoms operator plans to have installed BT Openzone access points in 200 broadband enabled pay phones by Christmas as part of an initiative that could see the creation of up to 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots over the next few years (see Broadband Britain Boosted By New Wi-Fi Hotspots).
