OOH sector now trading 3% below pre-pandemic revenues

The UK out-of-home (OOH) sector is now trading 3% below 2019 levels as it continues its path to post-pandemic recovery.

Outsmart, the trade body for the OOH advertising industry, found that “almost all environments” have now returned to pre-Covid revenue levels, with growth in digital at 6.1% and in classic at 2.4% across H1 2023.

In total, the UK out-of-home (OOH) industry reported a 4.7% year-on-year increase in ad revenue to £554m for the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year.

In Q2 specifically, OOH revenues reached £303m, marking a 4.4% year-on-year increase.

Digital OOH’s share of market stayed at 63% of total revenues for H1 2023, and 64% for the second quarter.

Andy Lobo, senior manager at PwC, which collated the figures, commented: “Digital OOH continues to capture the majority of budgets, and growth rates are very positive despite the macro-economic backdrop”.
