Marie Claire Promotes Four Covers In Charity Drive

IPC’s flagship women’s weekly Marie Claire is to feature four different celebrity covers, each representing a different charity, for its June issue of the magazine.

Marie Claire, positioned as the thinking woman’s glossy, will donate 30p from each cover to one of four charities; Rape Crisis, Breast Cancer Care, NSPCC and UNICEF. Each cover will feature a different celebrity to represent each charity, namely Cat Deely, Billie Piper, Denise Van Outen and Martine McCutcheon.

Marie O’Riordan, editor of Marie Claire, commented: “We take pride in providing our readers with coverage on global issues, this month we’ve taken our vision one stage further and made it easy for readers to support some of these causes. By simply buying the June issue, readers can contribute 30p to four of our hardest working charities.”

Emma Evans, senior marketing manager at IPC Southbank, added: “Marie Claire has supported many different causes over the years, but when it came to choosing Marie Claire’s charity of the year, we wanted our readers to have their say. This initiative allows readers to show what is important to them – and raise money at the same time.”

The move is the second month in a row that the magazine has used a novelty cover in a bid to boost sales. The May issue of the heavyweight glossy featured a bare-chested Justin Timberlake, its second ever male cover star, in a bid to boost sales (see Marie Claire Hopes Timberlake Will Boost Circulation).
