Telewest Promotes Broadband With Further Price Cuts
![]()
Telewest Broadband has launched a cut price self-installation broadband package, to tempt its digital TV customers to switch to broadband.
The new self-install package will cost £12.50, which Telewest claims is the lowest permanent entry price to high-speed internet access in the UK.
Chad Raube, director of internet services at Telewest Broadband, commented: “This is no gimmick or short term offer, we’re breaking new barriers for customers who are considering broadband for the first time. It’s fantastic value and requires no separate modem or external activation, so set up is normally possible within 30 minutes.”
Earlier this month BT announced that it was cutting the cost of its high speed internet connections for both consumers and businesses in an attempt to drive broadband take-up in 2003 (see BT Hopes Broadband Price Cuts Will Deliver).
However, Telewest claims BT’s new deal is not a threat. According to Raube: “BT has finally got round to dropping some of its activation and hardware fees, but they’re not playing in the same ball park. These packs combine our digital TV and broadband internet technology to offer the kind of value other ISP’s can only dream of.”
Telewest Broadband is also planning to trial a wireless self-installation pack in the near future.
A recent report from interactive media agency i-level claims that the increase in broadband take-up will increase the internet audience by 34.5% this year, which will help contribute to a 46% growth in online ad revenues in 2003 (see Broadband To Provide A Boost To Net Revenues).
