ITC Imposes £10,000 Fine On Auctionworld

The ITC has imposed a £10,000 financial penalty on teleshopping channel, Autionworld, for breaching the ITC code of practice.
According to the ITC, numerous viewers complained last year that goods ordered from the channel did not arrive within the advertised delivery period. The ITC upheld these complaints last year, and warned the channel that any similar compliance breaches in the future would result in a formal sanction.
19 complaints over the delay or non-delivery of items were received in May last year and the ITC pursued its investigations.
Auctionworld argued that there were delays in all 19 cases, but argued that their procedures aimed at detecting fraudulent transactions caused the problem. The channel also claimed that it had proved fraud in five of the 19 cases, but failed to provide any proof of this accusation.
The Commission concluded that Auctionworld was in breach of the ITC code again, and therefore decided to fine the channel £10,000. The fine was imposed after giving consideration to the channels improved delivery performance.
Earlier this week the ITC dismissed complaints against Channel 4’s televised post-mortem, Autopsy, claiming it did not breach taste and decency guidelines (see ITC Dismisses Complaints Against Channel 4’s Public Autopsy).
