Ofcom has opened a new impartiality investigation into GB News.
The investigation relates to a question-and-answer programme featuring Rishi Sunak called People’s Forum: The Prime Minister.
An Ofcom spokesperson said: “We have received around 500 complaints about the programme, which aired on GB News on 12 February 2024.
“We are investigating under Rules 5.11 and 5.12 of the Broadcasting Code, which provide additional due impartiality requirements for programmes dealing with matters of major political controversy and major matters relating to current public policy.
“Specifically, Rules 5.11 and 5.12 require that an appropriately wide range of significant views must be included and given due weight in such programmes, or in clearly linked and timely programmes.”
A GB News spokesperson declined to comment.
Ofcom now has 13 open investigations into GB News and the regulator said it is “working to conclude as quickly as possible in line with our published procedures”.
Five investigations are under Ofcom’s rules about broadcaster views/opinions and due impartiality, six are under due impartiality, one under offence rules and one under fairness and privacy rules.
Previously, Ofcom has found GB News in breach of its rules five times, three of which were linked to due impartiality.
Ofcom has also found GB News Radio to have broken its rules once, while one episode of Talking Pints with Nigel Farage was found not in breach of its rules.
