Classic Gold Digital Secures Danish Bacon Deal

Classic Gold Digital has secured a six month deal with Danish Bacon to sponsor Tony Blackburn’s new weekday breakfast show.

The deal marks the first time that the FMCG brand has sponsored a breakfast radio programme in the UK.

The new Sensational Breakfast show, scheduled to begin on Monday 31 March, will be broadcast across Classic Gold Digital’s nationwide network of analogue and DAB digital stations. The show marks Blackburn’s return to breakfast radio after a 30 year absence from morning broadcasting.

Brian McCarthy, trade marketing consultant for the Danish Bacon and Meat Council, commented: “By linking our Danish ‘sizzle’ to our first sponsorship of a breakfast radio show, we are confident that the association will be strengthened considerably amongst the thousands of listeners across the country tuning in to Classic Gold Digital every morning.”

Don Douglas, programme controller of the Classic Gold Digital Network, added: “We’re all very pleased to welcome Danish Bacon as our breakfast partner as sponsor of the Sensational Breakfast show. With Tony at the helm, this show will sizzle in more ways than one!”

Classic Gold Digital, which plays classic hits and golden oldies, is aimed primarily at an audience aged between 30 and 45. It is the third largest station on the local digital multiplexes.

Earlier this year the Digital Radio Development Bureau revealed that sales of DAB digital radios increased by 165% in 2002 and look set to more than double in 2003 (see Sales Of DAB Digital Radios Boom In 2002).

The Government also recently announced plans to review the digital radio industry, in a move that could produce a switch off date for the analogue signal (see Government Announces Review Of Digital Radio).
