Channel 4 Restructures Interactive Operations

Channel 4 announced today that it is combining its two commercial and editorial interactive divisions into a single business unit, called 4 Interactive.
The merged department will be headed up by Andy Taylor who joined Channel 4 earlier this year and takes the post of head of interactive. He steps into the new role following last week’s announcement that Peter Good is stepping down from his position as head of enhanced television.
Commenting on his new role, Taylor said: “We’ve had an excellent 2003 both creatively and commercially and I’m very excited by the restructure. It gives us the opportunity to accelerate our growth, get closer to commissioning editors and production companies and empower our creative functions under the direction of Andy Grumbridge.”
According to Channel 4, the new structure will allow commissioning editors and production companies to have a single point of contact to discuss multi-platform projects. The new department will further simplify the department by bringing together the online, iDTV and telephony editorial teams into a single team headed by Grumbridge.
Commenting on the new department, Anmar Kawash, managing director of 4 Ventures, said: “I strongly believe that by combining the two divisions we will be in a better position to build on the successes of 2003 by driving a growth agenda for 2004 and beyond. This new combined group will benefit from a single management, allowing the editorial and commercial teams to forge closer working relationships.”
He continued: “The new structure will also be much clearer to the remainder of the channel and should enable us to leverage our relationship with commissioning, production companies and other key stakeholders, which we believe are key to growth”
Last month Channel 4 appointed Kevin Henry as commercial projects manager within its client and strategic sales team. He has responsibility for developing an integrated sales approach across its commercial departments and its 4 Ventures division (see Channel 4 Appoints Henry To Cross Platform Sales Division).
