Yahoo! Secures Nissan For Pan-European Ad Campaign

Yahoo! is launching a pan-European advertising campaign to promote three of Nissan’s new models.
The seven-figure campaign for the new Micra 350Z, X-Trail and sports coupé models begins later this month and runs to the end of the year, with ads across Yahoo’s European network of websites in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
Commenting on the initiative, Chris Humphrey, director of OMD Digital, which brokered the deal said: “We are witnessing a real and significant movement of budgets towards digital media. Our rationale for Nissan Europe to use digital media was strongly influenced by the high volume of potential customers who research new cars online. We hope that more brand-based model support on Yahoo! will extend their ad effectiveness beyond traditional media channels.”
Philippe Geffroy, vice-president of marketing and strategy at Nissan Europe, added: “We are aiming to attract a new generation of customers to the Nissan brand and this deal with Yahoo! provides the perfect means of reaching our new target audience across Europe.”
Recent figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau and Price Waterhouse Coopers show that online adspend reached £197 million in 2002, which equates to a 1.4% share of the total UK advertising market (see Feature: Internet Advertising Flexes Its Muscles).
