PHD Compass Restructures To Focus On Key Ad Centres

PHD Compass is restructuring its national operations with greater emphasis on the key advertising centres of London and Manchester.

As part of the move, which will see the two cities become PHD’s primary business hubs, Ben Harrison, previously media director in London, will take on the role of media director South and Bridget Moore, formerly at PHD Compass in Leeds, becomes media director North.

David Beale, who has been running PHD’s Midlands business, has been appointed director of strategy, working across the company’s network of four UK offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds and the new office in Manchester.

Account management teams will continue to work from Leeds and Birmingham, offering services to local clients and creative agency partners in the Midlands and the North East, whilst accessing Manchester, London and the wider resources of the PHD group where necessary.

Commenting on the restructure, Mark Girling, managing director of PHD Compass, said: “London and Manchester are the UK’s two major advertising centres and we have something exciting to offer advertisers in each, However, some clients like the convenience of being served locally and we will continue to offer them resource in Leeds and Birmingham too.”

He added: “The promotions add more strength and allows us all to stay close to the business of advertising and the day to day media needs of our clients.”

Beale, Moore and Harrison will report directly to the senior management team, which includes Mark Girling, CEO Mark Cross, managing partner Andrew Diamond and the recently recruited Steve Blakeman, who will head up operations in Manchester.

Blakeman joins from Initiative, where he was head of European strategy on the Unilever account. Prior to this he was managing director of CIA Manchester.

The restructure comes just days after global communication company, Aegis Group, announced plans to bring all its media operations under an umbrella platform called Aegis Media. The network will comprise all Aegis’ client-related media brands including Carat, Posterscope and its portfolio of specialist communications services agencies (see Aegis Centralises Media Operations).
