Opus Take The Trophy At First MediaTel Group Charity Quiz Night
Following the very successful online Sports Quiz, which raised nearly £5,000 for the Whizz-kidz charity, MediaTel Group took the theme offline this week at W1 sports bar, Shoeless Joe’s, raising a further £650, as 13 crack teams of sporting know-alls battled it out for the quiz equivalent of the Jules Rimet trophy (small but very precious!).
Opus took the honours as Peter Charlton, Rupert Garrett, Barry Wood, Paul Carolan and Nick Hirst emerged from nine rounds of arduous questions (sporting videos, theme tunes, picture posers and testers on summer and winter sports) to pip the negatively named but clearly over-performing “Also Rans” from News International, by five points.
In third place were the only agency representatives, Starcom, whose team included both the first and third placed from the online quiz, Katie Dobson and Stewart Easterbrook. Katie beat Stewart on the last question in the six-month long predictor quiz, and was presented with her trophy before the evening’s event. Stewart is her boss, so good career move, Katie!
Other than Opus, Starcom and a second team from News International, other companies represented were Channel 4, Chrysalis, Capital Radio, IPC Media, National Magazines, Viacom Outdoor and Media Audits – plus two sides from MediaTel Group.
A further inter-media duel saw IPC finish a couple of places higher than Nat Mags (almost as good as winning as far as the magazine boys were concerned). The only all-girl team (the brave lasses of Media Audits) collected the wooden spoon but were well up there in any unofficial wine-drinking side-bets.
Meanwhile, the Opus lads are still on a lap of honour. Sales director, Peter Charlton commented: “We are showing off to anyone who’ll listen. Most think we are old and geeky but we don’t care!” You said it Peter!
