Channel 4 has boosted its streaming audience, while linear viewers declined slightly in monthly share and reach.

According to Barb data, in linear terms Channel 4 (including +1) reached 35.37m in June, with a share of 55.5%. This was down nearly 4%, or 1.56m, from 36.81m (and a 57.8% share) in June 2023.

Channel 4’s monthly non-linear reach on a TV set was 11.55m — an 18.1% share — in June, up 9% from 10.59m (and a 16.6% share) a year earlier.

Meanwhile, reach and share on combined PC, smartphone and tablet was 2.76m and 4.3% respectively last month, up from 2.65m and 4.2% in June 2023.

Streaming gathers pace

Channel 4 said it had recorded 3% year-on-year growth in viewing across streaming and linear in June to reach 4bn viewer minutes.

June’s streaming audience had risen 30% on the year before, according to the broadcaster, but it did not disclose linear figures.

Furthermore, overall viewing among ABC1s was up 23% in June.

Channel 4 added that the proportion of total viewing via streaming increased 29% year on year during the first six months of 2024.

The top shows on Channel 4 Streaming in June were: The Fall: Skydive Murder Plot, Dance Moms, The Gathering, Married at First Sight Australia, The Big Bang Theory, Celebrity Gogglebox, England football internationals against Iceland and Bosnia & Herzegovina, Made in Chelsea, Hollyoaks and Taskmaster.

“Our strong performance in June, with success across a wide range of titles, demonstrates the clear editorial and content approach set out in our Fast Forward strategy,” said Kiran Nataraja, director of streaming and content strategy.

“Despite the tough competitive landscape with Uefa Euro 2024, audiences continued to flock to Channel 4 Streaming last month as a destination to discover innovative new commissions, alongside well-loved brands.”
