BBC Worldwide has poached Carlsberg-Tetley’s senior brand manager, David Still, to become brand communications manager for the Radio Times.
Still, who takes up the position from the beginning of May, will be responsible for attracting new readers to the Radio Times, which saw its circulation decrease by 3.3% year on year in the ABC results for six months to December 2002 (see ABC Jul-Dec 2002: Celebrity/Gossip Titles Continue To Boom).
He will also manage all areas of internal and external communications for the magazine and will oversee the marketing of the title’s brand extensions, which include the recently launched Smart TV guide for parents and teachers (see BBC Extends Radio Times Brand With New Launch).
Still will report to Radio Times associate publishing director, Cathy Brown, who said: “We have exciting plans for the magazine and its various brand extensions and David will play an integral part in fully exploiting these opportunities.”
During his time at Carlsberg-Tetley, Still was responsible for supervising and planning brand strategy. He also helped to integrate new media channels into the organisation’s brand activities and below the line strategy.
BBC Magazines is also understood to have acquired independently published title, Parentwise, in a move said to signal the launch of an aggressive acquisition strategy. The title will continue to be produced from its offices in south London and will be run by Parentwise managing director, Pamela Janson-Smith.
