Annual Radio Festival To Address Burning Issues

Some of the biggest names in radio will gather in Birmingham next week for this year’s annual Radio Academy Festival.

NewsLine will report live from the event, which will tackle some of the most contentious issues facing an industry on the brink of upheaval at the hands of the forthcoming Communication’s Bill (see Government Confirms Relaxation Of Radio Ownership Rules).

Speakers at the Festival, which takes place between 7 and 9 July, include Ofcom’s recently appointed chairman, Lord Currie of Marlyebone; director general of the BBC, Greg Dyke and executive chairman of GWR Group, Ralph Bernard.

There will also be a discussion on the implications of electronic measurement, which will allow Capital Radio’s group programme manager, Andy Johnson; head of Emap Performance, Mark Story and OMD UK’s director of radio, Jonathan Gillespie, to air their views on the subject (see Agencies Support Rejection Of Electronic Measurement).

Other highlights include a panel session featuring outspoken Wireless Group chief executive, Kelvin MacKenzie and a debate entitled Politics, Truth and Radio with former cabinet minister, Claire Short.
