Sharewatch: BSkyB Rises After News Of Football Rights Bid

BSkyB was seen in focus yesterday, up 1.37% following speculation it is to make a £1 billion bid for the rights to all Premiership football matches (see BSkyB Bids To Retain Premiership Prize).

Elsewhere, investors considered reports that Publicis is to make a deal with investment fund Active Value to take-over Cordiant. However, some analysts have predicted Cordiant may be placed in the hands of administrators if Active Value abandoned plans to force a change of control. Cordiant‘s shares are set to be de-listed this morning.

Media analysts also considered the IPA’s quarterly Bellwether report, which quashed hopes of an improvement in fortunes for the advertising industry by revealing that marketing budgets were revised down again during the second quarter of this year (see Bellwether Reveals Continuing Uncertainty For UK Marketers).
