IPC Gives Homes And Gardens A Makeover

IPC’s flagship interior’s title, Homes and Gardens, is undergoing a major revamp ahead of its September issue.

The re-design will be centred around larger pages, with more photography and features, as well as a new logo. Homes & Gardens will promote its new look through a variety of events over the coming months in an attempt to increase circulation.

The September issue will feature an oversized book on how to decorate with paint, with advice on choosing new colours and using new products. The book will also include ads and a comprehensive directory of suppliers.

Commenting on the redesign, Isobel McKenzie-Price, editor of Homes & Gardens, said: “This bold new format demonstrates that the UK’s original interiors magazine is coming of age. It heralds an exciting phase of investment and development and builds on the title’s unique role as the international ambassador of classic English style.”

Homes & Gardens was first published in 1919 and is a leading title in the home magazine sector. The latest ABC results for this six months to December 2002 brought good news to the magazine, which saw circulation increase by 6.7% year on year to 157,981, up from 148,106 in the same period the previous year.

The picture for other home interest titles has been less rosy and NatMags recently announced its intention to close Your Home magazine, following a 24.5% year on year decline in circulation for the title in the latest ABC results (see Natmags Closes Your Home After Circulation Slump). However a last minute deal saw the magazine sold on to Essential Publishing, which will continue to publish the title from September.
