TalkSPORT Secures Siemens As Drivetime Sponsor

National sports radio station talkSPORT has secured Siemens as the £250,000 sponsor of its evening drivetime show with Richard Kaufman.

The deal, which begins this week, will see sponsored daily features appear on the weekday show, as well as competitions to win tickets to Premiership football matches. Branded programming will also run on the station, giving listeners the chance to text their favourite headline and provide captions to football photos.

The on-air activity will be supported by an online campaign on the station’s website, www.talksport.net.

The deal, which is the latest in a line of recent sponsorship agreements to be secured by talkSPORT (see TalkSport Clinches Breathtaking Deal With Halls), was negotiated by the station’s head of sponsorship and promotion, Adam Roland, along with Angela Farmer of Siemens’ sponsorship agency, Connexus.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Roland said: “The relationship ensures Siemens mobile will enjoy massive football presence on the station. The partnership is ideal: a mobile football brand hitting mobile football fans.”

The latest RAJAR data for the fourth quarter of 2002 reveals a relatively positive period for the station, which saw its weekly reach increase by 1% period on period to 2,415,000, up from 2,392,000 in the third quarter. Analysis over a slightly longer period reveals a mixed bag for the station, which saw its weekly reach fluctuate during 2000 and the early part of 2001, before staging a recovery in 2002 (see below).

Sponsorship is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to conventional advertising and last week it was announced that Woolworths has been signed as the multimillion sponsor of the Network Chart Show, in what is thought to be the biggest sponsorship deal in British radio history (see Woolworths Signed As New Chart Show Sponsor).
