Hachette Appoints Pepper Group To Regional Sales Role

Hachette Filipacchi has appointed the Manchester based Pepper Group, to handle its regional advertisement sales business across its range of titles.
The Pepper Group will take over from Media Sales Network on the Red, ELLE, Elle Decoration and ELLEgirl accounts with immediate effect.
The group will also take over the sales operations at B, Sugar, TVHits!, Inside Soap and All About Soap from the beginning of May replacing V Media Sales, which handled the regional sales business for the past two years.
Commenting on the appointment Vivien Cotterill, managing director of Hachette Filipacchi UK, said: “The Pepper Group will be seen as an integral part of our sales force and will be closely involved in the strategy for our magazines rather than as a third party sales agent.”
The change follows the break-up of Hachette’s joint ventures with Emap (see Red’s Future Uncertain After Emap And Hachette Split), and its acquisition of Attic Futura (see Hachette Buys Attic Futura For £40 Million), which has expanded the group’s portfolio of titles.
The latest set of ABC results for the six months ending December 2002 brought a mixed bag of results for Hachette. In the lucrative women’s monthly market, Red experienced a solid circulation rise, up 10.5% year on year to 192,005. However, the title remained well behind the sector leader, Conde Nast’s Glamour, which is going from strength to strength, after a 23.1% year on year increase in circulation to 537,474 (see ABC Jul-Dec 2002: Glamour Storms Ahead Of Competiton).
Elsewhere, Hachette was a victim of turbulent times in the teen magazine market. Flagship teen title, Sugar, saw the most significant decline in terms of actual numbers, with circulation dropping by 63,907 year on year. However, the magazine retained its position as sector leader.
