ITV Sales Appoints Trinder As Advertising Boss

ITV Sales has appointed Mark Trinder, former head of marketing communications at Woolworths, as its new head of advertiser relationships, replacing Mark Butterfield, who stepped down earlier this year.

Trinder will take up the new role in January next year with responsibility for developing longterm relationship with advertisers and showing how the ITV portfolio of channels can help clients achieve their key communications goals.

He will report directly to ITV’s head of customer relationship marketing, Justin Sampson, who said: “Mark is a great addition to the team and his experience as an investor in television advertising will bring something new to ITV Sales. This is the ideal time for us to reshape our relationships with advertisers and the broader advertising community.”

Trinder has been a key player in re-energising the Woolworths business over the last few years, having reshaped the marketing department and appointed BBH to develop a new advertising strategy. Prior to joining Woolworths, he worked at Sainsburys, Safeway and Hasbro in varying marketing communications roles and is currently a member of the ISBA Television Action Group.

Commenting on his appointment, Trinder said: “ITV is a great business and a great brand. The opportunity to be part of, and to help shape a new way of working both internally and externally was a big factor in my decision to join ITV.”

ITV’s decision to install a new head of advertiser relationships represents the latest in a long line of initiatives designed to introduce a more customer focused approach to the business. Sampson has already widened the focus of the agency sales team and has appointed three account directors from media and creative agency backgrounds to the advertiser relationships operation (see ITV Sales Recruits Third Agency Account Director).

He has also developed a trade marketing strategy focussing on promoting the effectiveness of television advertising and appointed a specialist consultancy to work alongside senior members of the ITV Sales team to help develop a new culture based around the needs of its clients (see ITV Sales Moves To Strengthen Client Focus).
