Barb launches invitation to tender for Establishment Survey
Barb is inviting tenders for its Establishment Survey.
The TV joint industry currency (JIC) is specifically seeking new methods and techniques in three areas.
First, it is looking for greater flexibility in sampling and data collection, including the potential of mixed mode fieldwork.
Secondly, the sample size — currently 53,000 UK households — is under review.
Finally, the new contract includes a redesign of the survey itself, with the aim of improving interview flow and making it more user-friendly.
Ipsos holds the current contract, which runs to the end of 2026. The new contract is for 2027-2029 — along with an optional two-year extension — with 2026 being a “testing year” that runs in parallel with the current one.
The Establishment Survey has three main objectives: offer population estimates for access to and ownership of TV viewing equipment; set profile targets for Barb panel control; and provide a pool of homes for Barb panel recruitment.
Last year, publishing JIC Pamco also began trialling shared data collection with the Establishment Survey.
Caroline Baxter, chief operating officer at Barb, said: “This tender gives us the opportunity to review all aspects of the Establishment Survey’s methodology and data collection — particularly considering the Barb panel expansion to 7,000 UK homes — while ensuring it is based on flexible, future-facing and high-quality processes and continues to meet our core objectives.”
The invitation to tender has a deadline of 9 October for response. The briefing pack can be found here.
