Trinity Mirror Appoints Regional Newspaper Sales Director

Newspaper giant Trinity Mirror has announced the appointment of Matt Harrison to the newly created position of newspaper sales director in its regional newspapers division.

The move follows the appointment of Georgina Crace as managing director of the company’s regional newspaper operations earlier this month and will see Harrison charged with improving circulation performance across the division.

In addition, Harrison will be responsible for identifying and sharing best practice across the division, and will be expected to grow return on investment in newspaper sales and related marketing activities.

The new director will take up his role in February 2005, reporting directly to Crace and working closely with Humphrey Cobbold, the company’s director of strategic development, who has been led a review of the company’s supply chain over the past year.

Harrison is currently a director at drinks giant Diageo, heading up the promotion of Diageo’s spirit and beer brands to off-licence customers through the wholesale trade. Harrison has held a number of commercial, sales and marketing roles with Diageo since 1999, and previously worked in the financial services industry with Barclays Bank and Prudential.

The appointment of Harrison marks an increased focus by Trinity Mirror on its regional operations, an area of its business which chief executive Sly Bailey has been keen to improve. Previous to the appointment of Crace earlier this month, Bailey took personal responsibility for Trinity’s regional titles following the departure of Stephen Parker as regional MD (see Trinity Confirms Regional Director To Step Down).
