The Sunday Times is to enhance its football coverage with the publication of a 32-page guide to the Premiership, distributed free with the paper on 8 August and offering readers insight into the minds of key players, as well as some of the season’s main highlights.
The Sunday Times Premiership Guide will include a series of questionnaires with top players from all of the 20 Premiership clubs. Among those to be quizzed will be Ryan Giggs, Freddie Ljungberg and Scott Parker, who will answers questions such as Who will win the title?, Who are the young stars to watch out for? and Who would play you in a movie of your life?.
In addition, a number of special guest writers will provide exclusive content. England international defender Gareth Southgate heads the bill, commenting on the Premiership’s array of star strikers, while Peter Schmeichel outlines his Premiership dream team and Joe Lovejoy previews the new season.
The title is to be supported by a national television and radio advertising campaign running from 6 to 8 August. This coincides with the paper’s latest Fantasy Football promotion, offering readers the chance to win a slice of a £100,000 prize fund (see Times Takes On Telegraph With Fantasy Football).
The latest ABC results show a decline in readership for the Sunday Times, losing 1.6% year on year in the six months to June. However, the Sunday Telegraph suffered a more severe 3.1% dip during the same period to just above 700,000 mark.
