Maiden Outdoor has announced two major new deals with Britain’s railway owner, Network Rail, which will see the company take control of 2,000 poster sites at 17 railway stations worth £450 Million.
The company has also renewed a five year promotions contract, worth over £27m, to manage exhibitions and product sampling opportunities on managed station concourses.
The deal will come as a relief to Maiden, which has recently lost a spate of rail contracts to rival outdoor contractor Viacom (see Viacom Outdoor Snatches Third Rail Contract From Maiden).
According to Maiden’s figures, around 650 million passengers use Network Rail managed stations each year, with advertising at such sites at a premium. The company claims that concourse advertising is extremely popular amongst advertisers, with Maiden’s giant Transvision screens featuring advertising and BBC News 24 content proving a great success.
Commenting on the new contracts Maiden’s chief executive, Ron Zeghibe, said: “These are very important tenders to have won. Not only were they won against keen international competition but we have been offered a longer advertising contract this time.”
He added: “The wins reflect Maiden’s innovative approach to the use of outdoor advertising; our ability to attract major advertisers; our experience in the transport sector; and the company’s leading position in large format outdoor advertising. We will in the near future be announcing three new advertising products for Network Rail, building upon our Adrail brand and innovative products such as Transvision.”
Rail advertising has seen several developments over the past six months, in addition to contracts being exchanged between outdoor contractors, new products such as TNX TV, the UK’s first train based television network, look set to attract more attention as they become more widespread (see TNX Signs Train TV Deal With Ninth Rail Operator).
