Trinity Confirms Regional Director To Step Down

Newspaper heavyweight Trinity Mirror has announced that Stephen Parker, currently managing director of the company’s regional newspaper division, is to resign next week, leaving chief executive Sly Bailey with direct responsibility for the company’s local titles.

Parker, an executive director with Trinity since January 1993, will leave the company at the end of July by mutual agreement. Commenting on his departure, Sly Bailey said: “I would like to thank Stephen for his tremendous dedication, application and achievement in his time with the Company.”

She added: “He has been involved in leading the business over the last twenty years, as it has grown from being a small provincial publisher into the UK’s largest newspaper publisher.”

Parker added: “I have really enjoyed my time at Trinity Mirror and am proud of what I, and the businesses I have led, have achieved. From overseeing the integration of the Scottish and Universal Newspapers acquisition in the early Nineties through to the building of Trinity Mirror plc via acquisition and merger, it has been a challenging, exciting, demanding and personally very rewarding.”

The outgoing newspaper chief recently became president of the Newspaper Society, the industry body for the regional press, although it is understood that his departure from Trinity Mirror will not affect his year-long position with the Newspaper Society.

Trinity recently announced a raft of senior appointments to its advertising team, designed to improve its relationship with clients and agencies and, ultimately, increase profits (see Mirror Group Announces Raft Of Advertising Appointments).

The company recently announced an increase in advertising revenue of 5.1% for the last six months, despite disappointing circulation volumes for its flagship national, the Daily Mirror. The company’s regional newspaper business is expected to perform well over the coming months, with projected advertising revenue growth of around 6% excluding digital media (see Trinity Mirror Sees Advertising Revenue Rise By 5.1%).
