IPC Appoints Webster As New Head Of Women’s Weeklies

IPC Media has announced that Evelyn Webster is to move from her current role as managing director of country and leisure media to head up the high-profile women’s weeklies division.
Webster will take up the position next month and will assume responsibility for a range of titles including Chat, Now and Women’s Own. She replaces Caroline Ward, who has decided not to return to the company after maternity leave.
Commenting on her appointment, Webster said: “The challenge of leading IPC’s powerhouse women’s weeklies division was simply too compelling to ignore. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a talented editorial and publishing team, in what is a truly dynamic market.”
Webster joined IPC as a graduate trainee more than ten years ago and worked her way up through the circulation and marketing teams to become a publisher within the IPC specialist division. She became publishing director across the country and equestrian titles in 1999 and was made managing director of country and leisure media last year.
Auton added: “I’m very pleased to announce Evelyn’s appointment to this hugely important role. Having worked closely with her first when I was managing director of country and leisure media, and again after she took on that position after I was named chief executive, I am absolutely confident that she will do a fantastic job.”
IPC celebrity driven weekly, Now, is expected to post a significant increase in circulation in tomorrow’s ABC figures for the six months to December 2003. Speculation suggests the title will continue to lead the celebrity market, even though Emap’s Heat is also expected to record another rise.
