Impact Announces Promotions As It Records Record Revenues

Impact, the sales house for The Wireless Group, has announced a number of new promotions as it reported strong revenues for flagship station talkSPORT during the final quarter of 2003.

Matthew Pennington has been promoted from account director to head of agency sales, talking charge of revenues across Impact’s portfolio of stations, including talkSPORT, the ILR group and third-party contracts such as River FM and Juice.

James Mcintyre has been promoted to senior sales executive, and Caroline Orange and Stuart Pollack move up to sales executive positions from their current roles as planners.

Managing director of Impact Ashley MacKenzie, said: “We are investing heavily in our sales and research teams to develop the service we offer to agencies and advertisers. With the biggest year in talkSPORT’s history upon us, and the growth of TWG’s portfolio, these promotions recognise our successes in the past and opportunities in the future.”

Revenues for talkSPORT were up by an average 24% between September and November 2003, and during October it recorded its biggest increase, up 42% compared to the previous year. New brands advertising on the station included Abbey, Golden Wonder and the Welsh Tourist Board.

The company’s local radio operations also reported revenue increases, putting on 23% during October. TWG will own a total of 16 local stations following the completion of its purchase of Forever Broadcasting (see Wireless Group Secures Forever For £8.1 Million).

The increase in revenues reported by Impact mirrors similar revenue growth across rivals station networks Capital and Chrysalis (see Rival Radio Groups Report Positive Outlook) GWR (see GWR Group Sees 12% Revenue Rise In Q1), and Scottish Radio (see Scottish Radio Sees 11% Revenue Jump In First Quarter), adding further proof that the radio ad market is leading the industry out of the advertising downturn (see Radio Leads The Way Out Of Advertising Downturn).
