T-Mobile To Sponsor Galaxy’s Ibiza Broadcasts

Commercial radio network, Galaxy, has signed a new deal with T-Mobile to sponsor its live summer broadcasts from Ibiza, with the cross platform promotion including interactive elements to mark the launch of T-Mobile’s new pay as you go price plan.

T-Mobile will be featured in eight weekend shows, as well as a four day weekend of live broadcasts, featuring sets from funky house outfit “Hed Kandi”. The sponsorship deal will see Galaxy running two on air promotions to give away 16 holidays to Ibiza.

Commenting on the deal, Richard Brinkman, non spot sales director at Chrysalis radio, said: “We are honoured and delighted that Galaxy has been chosen as a UK partner for T-Mobile’s “Mates Rates” campaign.”

He added: “We feel sure our comprehensive and interactive offering from Ibiza this summer will bring the positive vibe of the island back to listeners in the UK and reflect what “Mates Rates” is all about.”

T-Mobile aims to target sociable 16 to 24 year olds, combining on air activity with the use of the Galaxy web site and Galaxy’s ‘text maniacs’ database, a list of people who have signed up to receive information from Galaxy via SMS.

These listeners will be sent text messages offering them the chance to win entry to different clubs across the Galaxy network for just five pence, the same price as a text to a mate, or the price per minute, on the T-mobile price plan.

In May, Galaxy launched the second phase of its £350,000 marketing and advertising campaign, designed to boost the broadcaster’s profile amongst the nation’s young audiences (see Galaxy Continuing Marketing Push To Raise Profile).

A press and poster campaign based around the station’s “Live It” strapline links Galaxy with the personalities of its listeners as “self assured, sophisticated, real and serious about music”. The campaign follows on from a regional and national TV-led campaign which ran earlier this year.
