Soap and Footy Make BBC1 Clear Winner

Peter Crouch Eastenders and England’s last friendly before the World Cup ensured BBC1 was last night’s hands-down winner in the viewing stakes.

Over eight-and-a-half million adults (39.4% of the viewing share) tuned in to see Peter Crouch’s post-goal robotic jig and the home team beat Hungary 3-1. Eastenders, with almost eight million adult viewers, won the biggest audience share however, with 44.5% seeing Billy Mitchell’s mates dress him in a kilt and handcuff him to Albert Square on his stag night.

ITV1’s Emmerdale managed six-and-a-half million adult viewers (41%), but was aired before ‘Stenders; while no match for the match, X Factor: Battle Of The Stars pipped C4’s Big Brother with just over three-and-a-half million adults watching (17% of the viewing share) to BB‘s 15% (just under three-and-a-half million).

CSI: Miami was Five’s best offering of the night with two million viewers (11%).
